12 - 27 -06 - Story Line

Story Line

And Narrative follows
in my dreams
in my wake
not common
not at all
is all there is
is what I am
is beyond me
which is who I am
always
in the story
out of the story
always

turning words to paint
turning things to colors
turning lines away from
toward something
discovering as you go
how else is there

I'm in love with many of the paintings in this series, but Story Line and especially Limbo are my favorites. Together, viewed before reading their accompanying poetry, they feel like urban landscapes to me, Limbo a dayscape and Story Line at night. They have, yes, a Picassoesque quality, animated and askew, which playfully suggests to me the profound absurdity of human existence, all the facets of which are represented simultaneously by the windows in the city, behind each of which, whether eventful or mundane, a different drama unfolds.
